The aim of this study was to study the levels of osteopontin in Egyptian children with acute asthma. The study was conducted in emergency departments at the Pediatrics Hospital at Cairo University, Forty children with acute asthma were compared to 40 healthy children as control group. The results of the study were as follows: The vital signs were significantly higher in cases compared to controls. Hemoglobin was significantly higher in cases compared to controls. The percentage of eosinophilic cells was significantly higher in cases compared to controls. However, the difference between the mean osteopontin between cases and controls was not statistically significant. There were no statistically significant correlations between osteopontin and clinical and laboratory parameters of cases. and osteopontin had moderate sensitivity and low specificity in the diagnosis of acute asthma in children
