Dissertation note: Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Graduate Studies for Statistical Research - Department of Statistical Quality Control and Quality Assurance Summary: In government hospitals, inpatient falls has been recorded as the most recurring safety incident among patients where approximately 250,000 cases are recorded annually and, unfortunately, about 30%-50% of these falls result in physiological injuries to patients where fractures occupy about 1%-3% of these injuries. As a result of the increased patient fall numbers, the hospitals administrations decided to face this issue and it had the priority above all performance improvement for them inside the hospital. Accordingly, we have chosen this project other than all the others available due to their signigicant importance in keeping the patient in hospitals safe and comfortable, avoiding the bad reputation due to patient falls in hospitals, decreasing the death rate and complications, designing and assessing systems where preventable errors can no longer occur, earning the patient confidence in the health care system and facing the decreased hospitals profits. Our main aim throughout the project was to clarify the patient fall risk to the staff, educate patient and patient family, staff and patient for prevention of patient fall. Also, our improvement project aimed not to decrease the fall rate of the patient but to prevent it in the hospital and proving the link between using quality tools and decreasing patient fall. The data and the average patient fall numbers were collected from the patient files and from the incident report which was reported to the quality department. However, we have faced many challenges during data collection from hospitals due to the confindentiality of data because of unreporting falls
