The current study was conducted aiming to define the role of angiogenesis in pediatric solid tumors , investigate the usefulness of VEGF as a possible prognostic factor in conjunction with the more established parameters , find out any relation between angiogenesis markers and disease stage , number of metastases and volume of involvement , and evaluate any predictive value of serum angiogenic markers on possibility of response to cytotoxic therapyDuring the period January 2000 till May 2004 , 51 patients with solid tumors were enrolledThey were registering to Pediatric Department of NCI (40 patients) , Cairo University , and Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Clinic (11 patients) , Ain Shams UniversityThey were 27 boys and 24 girls whose ages ranged between 2 and 168 monthsTwenty healthy children were recruited to determine normal concentration of serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) A verbal consent was obtained from legal guardians prior inclusion in study
