This dissertation dealt with the behavior of anchored sheet pile exposed to the effect of surcharge loads placed on the surface of fine loose sand at different distances from the wallThe study included experimental work carried out on the two systems of single anchored and double sheet pile wallsBending moments , anchor forces , and wall displacements were measured and a comprehensive comparison between both systems was conductedA numerical analysis was conducted on both systems of single anchored and double anchored sheet piles using the finite element program PLAXISThe experimental results and those of the numerical analysis were put to comparisonA numerical parametric study was conducted on both systems of single anchored and double anchored sheet piles using loose , medium dense , and dense sandThree simplified approaches were assessed for the purpose of designing the double anchored sheet pile exposed to the effect of surcharge loading placed on the backfill surfaceIn these approaches the sheet pile wall is considered as either a statically indeterminate beam or as two statically determinate simply supported beams
