Age - related changes in some hematologic and metabolic parameters were investigated in the male golden hamster (Mesocricetusuratus) The effect of daily supplementations with antioxidants mixture (vitamins A , C and E as well as selenium and zinc) for six months on the probable age - related changes in the studied parameters was determinedThe experiments were performed on three , six and twelve months old animalsAdvancing age (3 - 12 months) in hamster was found associated with higher levels of RBCs , WBCs , Hb , PCV , MCHC , serum glucose , serum and liver alkaline phosphatase (ALP) , serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) , liver protein , liver albumin , liver cholesterol , liver aminotransferase (AST) , erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) and erythrocyte catalase (CAT) There was a decrease in levels of MCV , MCH , serum protein , serum lipids , serum triglycerides , serum cholesterol , serum urea , serum creatinine , serum AST , serum ALT , liver LDH and erythrocyte GPoxThe efficacy of antioxidant mixturedministration in amelioratingge - induced changes was confirmed from data presentedThus improved values were obtained for serum glucose , serum lipids , serum and liver cholesterol , serum and liver alkaline phosphatase , liver AST , liver protein , erythrocyte SOD , erythrocyte GPoxnd erythrocyte catalase of elderly hamstersHowever , long - term antioxidant supplementation showed no signs of recovery from age - related changes in the levels of RBCs , Hb , PCV , serum protein , serum triglycerides , serum and liver LDH , serum AST and serum and liver ALT
