Diabetic patients who require surgery present special challenges in perioperative managementSpecial attention must be paid to prevention and treatment of metabolic derangementsThere is a high frequency of heart failure accompanied by an increased mortality risk for patients with diabetesThe poor prognosis of these patients has been explained by an underlying diabetic cardiomyopathy exacerbated by hypertension and ischemic heart diseaseThis study was conducted to identify the indicators of cardiac risk among diabetic surgical patients , and the physiological implications for nursing practiceA convenient sample of 100 adult patients from surgical wards was chosen as a study sampleThe study has been strictly limited to surgical patients in Kasr Al - Aini (EL - Manial University) HospitalPatient assessment data sheet and Detsky's modified cardiac risk index (1986) were utilized to collect data pertinent to the studyThe results show that there is statistically significant correlation of Detsky's cardiac risk patient stratification to presence of hypertension , obesity , heart disorder , and kidney disorder
