Treatment with flxed orthodontic appliances concurrent with the corrosive environment of the oral cavity warrants in-vivo investigations of its biocompatibility. Methods: Eighteen control and 28 treated subjects were longitudinally evaluated. Four combinations of brackets-archwires were tested. Buccal mucosn cells (BMCs) samples were collected before treatment, 3 and 6 months after appliance insertion
