The anti-angiogenic factor soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFLT-1) is a member of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) family. sFLT-1 is produced due to misregulation of fms-like tyrosine kinase in the endothelial cells and the peripheral blood mononuclear cells resulting in over expression of the soluble splice variant of FLT-1 in the plasma and mononuclear cells
