The natural cembranoid diterpene sarcophine has been known to have anticancer activity. Sarcophine was extracted from the Red Sea soft coral sarcophyton glaucum and purified. The target of this study was the semisynthesis of one of its lactone opened ring hydroxylated derivatives which was reported to have more potent anticancer activity
