The association between neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, kernicterus, and G6PD deficiency has increased in the last years. Jaundice screening of newborns prior to hospital discharge is essential to identify relatively common but treatable conditions such as G6PD deficiency and prevent long-term morbidity and mortality and follow up of diagnosed hematological cases in hematology out patient clinic
