The characterization of breast cancer in excised tissue samples based on the differences in the x-ray scattering profiles of normal and malignant samples has been extensively studied in the last decade. The reported differences are mainly due to the presence of low fat content in malignant breast tissue compared to normal breast tissue. This work investigates the possibility of characterizing breast cancer by measuring the x-ray scattering profiles of lyophilized excised breast tissue samples
