This thesis examines four novels two major Asian American authors namely Bharati Mukherjee and Chang-rae lee . Through the application of postcolonial theories the thesis examines how Asian American immigrants can find a space for themselves in their new host land . Chang-rae lee's native speaker (1995) and A Gesture life (1999) as well as Bharati Mukherjee`s jasmine (1989) and Desirable Daughters (2002) are selected for analysis
