Welding is highly recommended for splicing concrete reinforcing bars in all concrete structures . SMAW lap - weld and butt - weld joints realized from ASTM A615M tempcored and as - hot - rolled reinforcing steel bars are studied . The objective of the research is to establish different effective lap weld lengths and metallurgical properties between welding of tempcore and as hot rolled reinforcing bars with different sizes, preheating condition, joints and may safely adopted with particular reference to the welding specifications codes as AWS
