Cognitive decline, as well as increased dementia is strongly linked to diabetes. Diabetes- associated cognitive decline is accompanied by structural and neurochemical abnormalities, as well as by degenerative chenges in the brain that correlates with chronically increased intracellular glucose concentration. Cerebrolysin (CBL), a mixture of several active peptide fragments and neurotrophic factors including brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), is used in the management of cognitive alterations in demented patients
