Corrosion of reinforcing steel is a destructive form of damage that affects the serviceability , strength , and stability of reinforced concrete structuresMany codes are now regulating the use of epoxy - coated bars and adding new provisions to ensure proper design and detailing of reinforced concrete structures using such barsThe current research work is basically conducted to observe the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete beam - column connection with different types of coated steel barsTo achieve this purpose , an experimental program with cyclic loading tests on large - scale specimens is performedThe experimental program consisted of preparing and testing of ten reinforced concrete beam - column jointsThe experimental program was designed to precisely observe the effect of the type of column main reinforcement (fusion bond , epoxy coated and normal high grade steel bars) , the type of column stirrups reinforcement (fusion bond , epoxy coated and normal high grade steel bars) , the distribution of transverse reinforcement along the column , and size of columnThe test results were analyzed and evaluated to demonstrate the effect of the selected variables on the stiffness , strength , cracking behavior , ductility , and energy dissipation capacity of seismic - resistant of reinforced concrete beam - column exterior joints
