This study deals with sedimentlogical and geochemical characteristics of the bittern ponds (1/2, 5, 6, Mg and storage pond 2/2) at the Egyptian Salts & Minerals Co. (EMISAL) at different concentrations and specific gravities. The mineral composition and petrography of the five bittern ponds sediments were identified using X-ray diffraction and polarizing microscope techniques. The thin sections of evaporite sediments were made for identification of minerals and to examine textures and the relationship between the minerals present. - Pond (1/2): It has an area of about 51466 m² and depth of about 3.2 m, the average Sp. Gr. is 1.222. X-ray showed that halite is the dominate evaporite mineral. Petrographical thin section examination of thin section samples showed that halite is formed as clusters of large euhedral cubic; dissolution features of irregular subhedral to distorted platy halite crystals were recorded. Chevron textures with abundant primary fluid inclusions were also observed
