The possible neuroprotective effect of ischemic preconditioning, postconditioning and certain agents in global cerebral ischemia-reperfusion induced in rats / إحتمال التأثير الوقائي العصبي للتهيئة القبلية والبعدية و بعض المواد في إفتقار الدم الشامل وإعادة التروية في مخ الجرذان Muhammed Abdullatif Saad ; Supervised Amina S. Thesis (Ph.D.) - Cairo University - Faculty of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology
In the present experiments, a study of the possible neuroprotective effects elicited by the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 antagonist, montelukast (0.5 mg/kg, p.o.) and the natural flavonoidal compound, pinocembrin (10 mg/kg, p.o). Furthermore, two non-pharmacological techniques with potential protective actions against different models of ischemia reperfusion injury namely, ischemic preconditioning and ischemic postconditioning were also studied. The following biochemical parameters were estimated; lactate dehydrogenase activity, oxidative stress markers (lipid peroxides, reduced glutathione and nitric oxide), inflammatory markers (myeloperoxidase, nuclear factor kappa-B, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-10and interleukin-6), neurotransmitters (glutamate, gamma aminobutyric acid) apoptotic and biomarkers (caspase 3 and cytochrome c) were assessed. Additionally, cerebral infarct sizes as well as histopathological changes were investigated in all groups
