Breast cancer survivors may suffer from distress which extends along a continuum, from common normal feelings of vulnerability, sadness, and fears to problems that are disabling, such as true depression, anxiety, panic, and feeling isolated or in a spiritual crisis. They use different ways of coping in response to their distress. In our study we use questionnaires to assess the prevalence of anxiety and depression among a sample of survivors and to determine the coping processes that they use in face of their distress. We also use the person centered approach, integrated with the questionnaires, to determine the extent of their distress and gain a better knowledge of each survivors experience with cancer in order to provide better service and care for the patients as we get to truly understand the extent and nature of their suffering
