The treatment of meniscal tears in athletes remains controversial. Different approaches including total, partial meniscectomy or meniscal repair are used aiming at restoring meniscal function as shock absorbants and achieving good functional outcome for the injured athlete. 30 patients suffering from BHTs between18 and 30 years with mean age of 19.7 years presenting after a sports injury, 9 patients of which suffer from lateral meniscus tear, while 21 of them suffered from medial meniscus injury, 6 of the patients presented with a locked knee, that was dealt with intraoperatively and unlocking was achieved, while the other 24 didnt suffer from locking. All patients were managed by partial meniscectomy of the injured meniscus and were followed up for six months to evaluate their condition postoperatively. Clinical evaluation of the patients was performed according to both the lysholm knee score and the IKDC score and their preoperative conditions was compared to their postoperative results. The total follow - up duration was 6 months. Complications included limited ROM in 9 patients which was improved later on by physiotherapy persistent pain that was treated by pain killers. All patients responded well to physiotherapy. Our approach evaluates partial meniscectomy as a dependable approach in treating BHTs in athletes with results showing majority of patients returning normally to their sports activities post operatively
