This thesis is divided into three parts. In part one, general introduction on selected drugs used in treatment of common cold, their structure, physical properties, chemistry and pharmacological effects of the studied compounds. A summary of the reported methods developed for their analysis were also stated. In part two, different analytical methods utilizing chromatographic, spectrophotometric and potentiometric techniques were developed and validated for simultaneous determination of a ternary mixture of chlorpheniramine maleate, pseudoephedrine HCl and ibuprofen in pure form, laboratory prepared mixtures and pharmaceutical formulation. In part three, different analytical methods utilizing chromatographic, spectrophotometric and potentiometric techniques were developed and validated for simultaneous determination of a ternary mixture of carbinoxamine maleate, pholcodine and ephedrine HCl in presence of sunset yellow (coloring matter) in pure form and in pharmaceutical dosage form. All the proposed methods were validated according to the ICH guidelines and were successfully applied to pharmaceutical dosage forms. All the obtained results were within accepted range
