Thesis (M.Sc.) - Cairo University - Institute of Statistical Studies and Research - Department of Operations Research and Management
Assembly lines are flow-oriented production systems which have a great importance in the industrial production. The assembly lines help to reduce the workers learning time through assigning various tasks required to complete a product to different stations. The problem of assigning tasks to stations, namely, assembly line balancing problem, has attracted both of practitioners and researchers in the last decades. In this thesis, the classification of assembly line balancing problem will be stated, with referring to the corresponding mathematical models and previous work. Due to the complexity of assembly line balancing problem, which is considered to be one of the NP-hard problems, a selected metaheuristic algorithm, namely, an artificial immune system will be proposed to solve such problem. To validate the output of the proposed artificial immune system algorithm, the results computational are compared with selected samples from a well-known benchmark
