This thesis investigates the behavior of simply-supported high and normal strength reinforced concrete beams with rectangular cross sections having one rectangular opening at the mid-height of beam using a non-linear finite element model program (ANSYS Ver.14.5). The main parameters were: Opening length (l₀), opening depth (h₀), position of the opening along the beam axis (S), ultimate cylinder compressive strength (fc'), Main reinforcement ratio (æ), the Type of load, and Reinforcement ratio and stirrups on top and bottom the opening. The study revealed that, provision of openings in reinforced concrete beams at shear zone causes reduction in the stiffness, cracking load, and ultimate strength of beam reached up to 57%, 67%, and 70% respectively, while the behavior of beams with small-central openings was similar to the corresponding solid beam
