Sizing air vessels in protecting pipeline systems against water hammer effects involves various parameters with complex relationships and an iterative solution, no simple and reliable sizing tool is present, also due to the limited range of input parameters, many of current design charts and models cannot be used in even the preliminary stages of surge protection design. Thus the main objective of this study is to develop new simple model for the predicting of optimum size of surge vessels on pumping mains. The developed models can serve as basis for preliminary surge protection selection and design, and can substitute complex commercial modeling software, especially for practitoners and decision makers in feasibility study and conceptual design phases. This can be done with less error and higher degree of accuracy compared to existing design charts, and for farther varication for the developed models the parametric analysis will be conducted
