Purpose: To study the IOP outcome and success rate of trabeculectomy surgery performed by trainees in Cairo University Hospital Methods: This was a retrospective study in which medical records of patients who underwent trabeculectomy performed by trainees between October / 2012 and May / 2017 at Kasr al Ainy teaching hospital, Cairo University, were reviewed. The outcome of the operation was classified as a success or failure based on data from the last follow-up. Failure was defined as a final IOP > 21 mmHg on medical treatment and/or the need for a subsequent glaucoma procedure or occurrence of devastating complications (as retinal detachment, endophthalmitis or phthisis bulbi) and in failed cases the time to failure was reported. Success was further classified as complete (IOP 21 mmHg on no treatment) or qualified (IOP 21 mmHg on maximum tolerated medical treatment). Results: We analyzed the data of 131 eyes that underwent trabeculectomy by trainees in the glaucoma service, of which 16 cases were excluded for missed preoperative or post-operative data, and 5 cases were excluded because they missed their follow-up visits. Accordingly, the present study included 110 eyes from 96 glaucoma patients who underwent trabeculectomy
