A patient safety practice is defined as a type of structure or process in which its application could reduce or even prevents the probability of adverse events (Shojania et al., 2001b). Mechanism needs to be developed for capturing data relating to knowledge and practices of patient safety, especially implementation of surgical safety checklist need intense and sustained efforts (Alfredsdottir and Bjornsdottir, 2008). Aim of the study: The study aimed to increase knowledge and practices regarding patient safety and infection control of operating room team; surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses in Port-Said general hospital through an educational program. Study methodology: The study was an intervention study conducted in operating room of Port-Said general hospital. It passed through three stages; baseline assessment of knowledge and practice regarding patient safety and infection control among operating room team, intervention stage in which an educational program of patient safety and infection control was conducted, then re-evaluation to assess the post-intervention knowledge and practices. The most important results revealed that: all the studied participants showed improvement in both total knowledge and total practices of patient safety and infection control after the educational program than before. However, the individual items of patient safety and infection control were not the same as the total. The study conclusions and recommendations were: All the studied participants showed increase in total knowledge and practices of patient safety and infection control after the educational program. Conducting continuous training and refreshment courses as a part of the work system refreshment courses at different workers level and for newly employed staff in the ORs of Port-said general hospital for maintaining the patient safety and infection control practices, is recommended
