Background: Functional ankle instability (FAI) represents 4075% of residual physical disability after ankle sprain. FAI has been associated with deficits in muscle strength , balance and sensory motor system. Purpose of the study: was to assess the effect of functional ankle instability on hip proprioception and isometric hip abductor and extensor strength.Subjects and Methods: Sixty participants of both genders were selected ,their ages ranged from from 19 to 25 years . The study group contained 30 participants (21 females and 9 males) while the control group involved 30 normal subjects (24 females and 6 males). All particpants were assesd by functional ankle disability index (FADI). Hip proprioception was assessed by active repositioning error using the bubble inclinometer. Isometric hip abductor and extensors strength was assessed by hand held dynamometer.Their mean ± SD for age and Body Mass Index were 23.1 ± 1.54 years and 23.37 ± 1.71 kg/m² respectively. Results : There was a significant increase in the hip active repositioning error in the study or FAI group compared with control group. There were significant decrease in isometric hip abductors and extensors strength in FAI group compared to control group
