Background: Humeral shaft fractures account for 3% of all fractures.. Among the surgical options available for closed humeral shaft fractures are DCP and locked plates.Aim: Evaluation of two groups of patients, group A managed by locked plates and group B by conventional plates. Study design: Prospective study. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 60 patients, Group I 30 pt Group II 30 pt. the study included patients aged between 20-75 years with midshaft fractures and proximal one third of humerus. All cases were followed for 12 months. They were all evaluated both clinically and radiologically. The clinical results were assessed according to the Stewart and Hundley's scoring system. Radiological evaluation included assessment of union, malunion, failure of fixation and implant failure. Results: union were excellent (before 3 months) in thirty three patients (55.0%) 17 patients(56.7 %) in group I and 16 patients(53.3%) group II; good (before 6 months) in 23 patients (38.3%),11(36.7%) in group I and 12(40.0%) in group II and poor (non united) in 4 patients (6.7%) two fixed by locked plates (6.7%) and two by conventional plate (6.7%)
