This study was conducted in Kalubia Governorate during (2002 - 2003 / 2003 - 2004 seasons) , to evaluate the effect of some summer pruning treatments on young branches (one year old) (thinning branches by removing 1 / 3 branches number and shortening 1 / 3 branches length and / or spraying paclobutrazol (PP333) at 1000 ppm) , on 15th July and 15th August , besides untreated trees , of El - Amar apricot trees as controlData showed that the triple combined treatment (thinning+shortening+PP333) gave the highest significant values recorded for numbers of spurs formed on branches (1017 in hundred and 1164 in hundred) Also , The same treatment increased percentage of floral buds and fruit set as compared with controlDistribution of fruit spurs along the branches in all treatments was highest at the terminal part of the branch followed by the medium then the basal part respectivelyYield per tree increased by all treatments , but the highest yield was obtained from the triple combined treatment on 15 July (7375 and 8631 kg / tree) in the two seasons respectivelyFruit physical characters (fruit weight , size , fruit dimensions and firmness) were significantly increased by the same treatment (thinning+shortening+PP333) compared with other treatments and control treesTSS in hundredwas significantly increased but acidity was not affected by all treatmentsChemical analysis revealed a high content of total carbohydrates , C / N ratio , indols , phenols and total free amino acids in the triple combined treatment (thinning+shortening+PP333) Generally , all treatments on 15 July resulted in more significant effects than those on 15 August |
