General note |
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing its Sixth International Biennial Conference, BioVisionAlexandria 2012, 22-25 April 2012, in Alexandria, Egypt. The theme of the upcoming BioVisionAlexandria Conference is "New Life Sciences: Linking Science to Society" which aims at addressing the role science can play in achieving a fair, equal and just society, not just through scientific research but also policy adjustment. BioVisionAlexandria (BVA) is an international event organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in partnership with the World Life Sciences Forum, BioVision. It is a continuation of the tradition that started in BioVision 1999 in Lyon, France in which BioVisionAlexandria Conference was held every even year, alternating with the World Life Sciences Forum held in Lyon every odd year since 2004. BVA 2012 aims at gathering representatives and leaders in science, industry and society to identify and set the priorities needed to rebuild society and discuss how the policies of scientific research need to be revolutionized towards serving society, especially the less fortunate, and to transform the lives of those who truly need it. Alongside this significant event, the BA is organizing a major fair entitled: “BioFair@BioVisionAlexandria 2012â€{u009D}, which gives the exhibitors an opportunity to showcase their products and services to over 2000 participants, around 120 Nobel Laureates, distinguished keynote speakers, eminent scientists, and CEOs of several national and multinational companies as well as Ministers of Health and Agriculture coming from the four corners of the globe. As scientific research is an important tool for social development and economic progress of any country, the BA will also held a Poster Session for young researchers and scientists. The Poster Session aims at providing opportunities for scientists, especially young ones, to meet with life sciences professionals, and present their work in a professional atmosphere of discussion and interchange. In addition, BVA 2012 will feature an interactive event in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) for young researchers from the developing world titled “TWAS/BVA.NXTâ€{u009D}. The Event will be held 21-22 April 2012 under the theme: “Scientific Innovation in the Developing World: From Theory to Practiceâ€{u009D}, and it intends to explore scientific innovation in the developing world, and highlight its importance for sustainable development. Furthermore, the young scientists will be invited to participate in BioVisionAlexandria Conference program.
