| Summary, etc. | The COVID 19 Pandemic has been a global<br/>emergency caused by the outbreak of SARS-CoV2 virus in Wuhan,<br/>Hubei, China in November 2019. The disease is characterized by<br/>acute respiratory distress among other symptoms produced by<br/>immune system disturbance and cytokine storm.<br/>Objective: To determine the serum level of soluble IL-2Ra and<br/>RANTES in COVID 19 patients and compare with healthy controls<br/>as well as detect correlation with disease severity.<br/>Methods: A case-control study was conducted on 60 patients with<br/>a positive nasopharyngeal swab tested by RealTime PCR for SARS-<br/>CoV2 admitted to isolation wards of Kasr Alainy Hospitals and<br/>COVID 19 outpatient clinics, and 25 healthy controls to measure<br/>serum levels of soluble IL-2Ra and RANTES using Enzyme Linked<br/>Immunosorbent Assay.<br/>Results: The results revealed no statistically significant difference<br/>in serum levels of soluble IL-2Ra and RANTES between patients<br/>and healthy controls, neither was there a difference in serum levels<br/>of both parameters between severe and non-severe cases of COVID<br/>19. |
