520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Purpose: This study was conducted to compare between effects of proprioceptive neuro muscular facilitation versus low level laser on shoulder adhesive capsulitis (AC) post neck dissection surgery. Subjects and methods: Forty patients from both genders suffering from shoulder adhesive capsulitis after modified radical neck dissection surgery participated in this study. The individuals were sent to our out-patient clinic at Damanhur Medical National Institute by the Damanhur Oncology Center; their ages ranged from 25 to 65 years and were divided randomly into two groups equal in number. The low level laser therapy (LLLT) group (group A) received LLLT with the following parameters (wave length: 830 nm, output: 50 mw, maximum frequency: 5000 Hz. Pulse duration: 50 ns.Average dose: 9 J/cm2, 20 min) plus traditional physical therapy (Mobilization technique, range of motion (ROM) and strengthening exercises) for 30 minutes. The proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) group (group B) received PNF for 25–30 min in addition to traditional physical therapy. The treatment period was 3 times each week and lasted for eight weeks. The discomfort in the shoulder was measured using a visual analogue scale (VAS), Shoulder impairment as well as pain was assessed by shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI) scale and the shoulder ranges of motion were assessed using universal goniometer. Before and after the intervention, all measures were taken. Results: This findings reveal that there was great enhancement in all variables in both groups A and B after therapy compared to before treatment (p<0.001). After therapy, there were no obvious changes in VAS and SPADI values among groups (P > 0.05). However, Statistical analysis showed significant improvement in PNF group in shoulder flexion, abduction and external rotation in comparison to that of LLLT group after treatment (p < 0.001). Conclusion: PNF proved to be more effective than LLLT in increasing ROM but was as effective as LLLT in decreasing shoulder pain and dysfunction in AC post ND surgery.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
