Bladder cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers globally. Men have a 34-fold<br/>higher rate of cancer than women. The gold standard treatment for muscle-invasive bladder<br/>cancer is a radical cystectomy (RC).<br/>Objective: The present study aimed to assess effectiveness of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on<br/>size of tumor; assess the treatment outcome (overall survival and progression free survival) of<br/>all cases of urinary bladder cancer.<br/>Patients and Methods: The present study aimed to assess effectiveness of neoadjuvant<br/>chemotherapy on size of tumor; assess the treatment outcome (overall survival and progression<br/>free survival) of all cases of urinary bladder cancer. Most patients presented in an advanced<br/>stage of the disease (stages 3 and 4: 60.8% and 17.7%, respectively); (69.6%) of patients had a<br/>history of Schistosomiasis.<br/>Results: Patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy had higher 2-year OS than patients<br/>who received adjuvant chemotherapy (56% vs. 48.4%). Patients who received neoadjuvant<br/>chemotherapy had higher median OS than patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy (25.1<br/>vs. 22.0 months). Females exhibited a considerably greater 2-year cumulative relapse rate than<br/>males (P = 0.010). Patients aged > 50 years having a greater 2-year cumulative incidence of<br/>recurrence than patients aged 50 year (P = 0.179). Squamous and Transitional cell histologies<br/>(vs. Papillary) connected with a greater risk of recurrence (P = 0.23 and 0.17).<br/>Conclusion: Patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy had higher OS than patients<br/>who received adjuvant chemotherapy. Females exhibited a considerably greater cumulative<br/>relapse rate than males. There was statistically significant correlation between gender and<br/>recurrence risk. |
