| Summary, etc. | Background: Previous work has demonstrated that insomnia is highly prevalent in psychiatric patients. This study aimed at investigating the hypotheses that Insomnia is highly prevalent among patients suffering from psychiatric disorders, Type and severity of insomnia in this population varies according to the current psychiatric disorder, and that Type and severity of insomnia in this population varies according to the severity of the current psychiatric disorder. Methods: A consecutive sampling technique was applied where by every new patient was chosen for the study if he or she met the inclusion criteria of the study and if not, the next eligible patient was included, psychiatric diagnosis was established by attendant resident then confirmed by consultant psychiatrist at the clinic , sleep disordered interview , insomnia severity index , Pittsburgh sleep quality index and GAF |

| Summary, etc. | يعد الارق من اضطرابات النوم الشائعة والتي تتميز بصعوبة بدايه النوم او الاستمرار فيه او نقص في جودة وكفاءه النوم .<br/>لقد تناولت الكثير من الابحاث معدل انتشار وخصائص الارق في مختلف المجموعات السكانية والبيئات المختلفة مثل اماكن الرعاية الاولية و العيادات الخارجية وكذلك عامة الشعب ، علاوة علي ذلك تمت دراسة معدل انتشارالارق في المرضي الذين يعانون من الاضطرابات النفسية.<br/>وبناءا علي ذلك تم تعريف العلاقة بين النوم والاضطرابات النفسية على أنها متعددة الأوجه ذات سببية ثنائية الاتجاه . ايضا ثبت أن علاج بعض الاضطرابات النفسية يمكن أن يعزز جودة النوم ، ويمكن أن يؤثر علاج اضطرابات النوم بشكل إيجابي على علاج الكثير من الاضطرابات النفسية .<br/>وبالتالي ، دعا الدليل التشخيصي والإحصائي للاضطرابات العقلية ، الإصدار الخامس إلى ضروره التشخيص السريري المستقل لاضطرابات النوم بغض النظر عن التشخيص النفسي والعقلي المصاحب له <br/>وفقا لذلك تم ازالة تصنييف الأرق في الدليل التشخيصي والإحصائي للاضطرابات العقلية ، الإصدار الرابع المقسم الي أرق اولي وثانوي وإستبداله بتشخيص إضطراب الأرق المتزامن مع الاضطرابات النفسية كتشخيص موحد. <br/>هذا التغيير المهم في معايير التشخيص لاضطراب الارق يدعم التعرف على الطبيعة المرضية المصاحبة للأرق ويعزز أيضًا علاج الأرق نفسه جنبًا إلى جنب مع الاضطراب الطبي أو النفسي<br/> |
