تناولت الدراسة تاريخ طب العيون والمؤسسات الطبية والأطباء في مصر، وتأثير ذلك على المجتمع المصري منذ بداية القرن التاسع عشر حتى منتصف القرن العشرين، وكشفت لنا الدراسة الأحوال السياسية والصحية في مصر، وما ترتب على ذلك من انتشار الأمراض بشكل عام منذ أقدم العصور حتى تلك الفترة، وبداية الاهتمام من قبل الدولة بالطب وبتخصص طب العيون، فضلًا عن الدوافع والأسباب وراء الاهتمام بالطب من قبل الدولة. وتعرفنا على جميع الأمراض التي تصيب كافة مكونات العين، ونسبة انتشارها في مصر في تلك الفترة، وكذلك الأسباب التي أدت إلى انتشار هذه الأمراض، كالأسباب الجغرافية والبيئية والسيادية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية والوراثية ...إلخ، ثم اتجهت الدراسة لمعرفة طرق العلاج المختلفة في مصر في تلك الفترة، كطب الركة والعلاج الطبي والعلاج الوقائي ...إلخ. وانتقلت الدراسة إلى محور آخر وهو: دور الدولة تجاه مرضى العيون، وكشفت لنا الدراسة مدى الاهتمام من الدولة في هذه الفترة بهؤلاء المرضى من خلال إنشاء مؤسسات لهم، مثل: إنشاء مدرسة الطب وإرسال بعثات للخارج للتزود بالمهارات والوقوف على أحدث التطورات في هذا المجال، واستدعاء أفضل الأطباء في أنحاء البلاد الأخرى للقيام بتدريب الطلاب بكلية الطب في هذا المجال، وإنشاء قسم للرمد الذي كان يقوم بعدة مهام مختلفة، فضلًا عن إنشاء مستشفيات لعلاجهم بنوعيها الدائم والمتنقل، علاوة على عيادات المدارس، وإنشاء المدارس الخاصة لهم، وكذلك تعليمهم مع المبصرين بالمدارس العامة والدينية والكتاتيب، وكذلك دور كل من الشئون الاجتماعية والجمعيات الأهلية والمؤسسات الخيرية تجاههم. <br/>ثم انتقلت الدراسة لمحور آخر وهو: نظرة المجتمع لمرضى العيون في تلك الفترة، من حيث علاجهم وتعليمهم ونظرتهم لعملهم والزواج منهم ودور الأسرة تجاههم، كما عرضت الدراسة أمثلة على كل من التفاعل الإيجابي لمرضى العيون في المجتمع المصري، وتبيان المهارات والهوايات الخاصة بهم، فضلًا عن نجاحهم ببعض المجالات، كالمجال الصناعي ،السياسي، الديني، الأدبي، الفنون كفن الإنشاد الديني والشعر والموسيقى ....إلخ. فضلًا عن التفاعل السلبي في المجتمع مثل أعمال التسول والعنف والسرقة والنصب والافعال غير الأخلاقية وتجارة المخدرات ...إلخ، وأخيرًا الخاتمة التي تم عرض فيها النتائج والتوصيات بشأن الوضع الراهن.<br/><br/> |

The study deals with the history of ophthalmology, medical institutions, and physicians in Egypt and their impact on the Egyptian society starting from the beginning of nineteenth century until the middle of twentieth century. It reveals the political and health conditions in Egypt and the consequent spread of diseases in general, starting from the ancient areas until that period. It discusses the interest of State in medicine, especially the ophthalmology, as well as the motives and reasons that prompted the State to pay attention to the medicine. In addition, we learned about all the diseases affecting all eye components and their prevalent percentage in Egypt during this period, as well as the reasons that led to the spread of these diseases, such as geographical, environmental, sovereign, social, economic, and genetic ones. Moreover, the study focused on finding out the different methods of treatment in Egypt during that time period, such as Al Rokka medicine, medical treatment, preventive treatment, etc. The study has moved to address another axis, namely: the role played by the State for eye patients, indicating the State's interest in this period in these patients by establishing some institutions, such as: establishing the of school of medicine, sending missions abroad to acquire skills and be familiar with the latest developments in this field, bringing the best physicians from the other countries to train the medical students in this field, establishing an ophthalmology department concerned with several different tasks, establishing permanent and mobile hospitals for their treatment and school clinics, establishing private schools for them, and teaching them with sighted people in public, religious and Koranic schools, in addition to the role played by the Social Affairs Offices, NGOs and charitable institutions for them.<br/>The study has then moved to discuss another axis, namely: the society's view of eye patients during this period, in terms of their treatment, education, view of their work, marriage with them, and the role of family towards them. The study has also indicated some examples of the positive interaction of eye patients in the Egyptian society, showing their skills and hobbies as well as their success in some fields, such as: the industrial, political, religious, and literary fields, and the arts, such as religious chanting, poetry, music, etc., as well as the negative interaction in society such as beggary, violence, theft, swindling, immoral acts, drug trafficking, etc.<br/>Finally, the conclusion presents the final results and recommendations of the |
