Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) is one of the most common causes of<br/>thrombocytopenia. It is an acquired thrombocytopenia caused by autoantibodies against<br/>platelet antigens. The dominant clinical manifestation is bleeding, which correlates<br/>generally with the severity of thrombocytopenia. However, patients with chronic ITP<br/>may also have an increased risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE). Interleukin 37 is<br/>a newly identified cytokine of the IL-1 family, Some members of which are important<br/>in inflammation and angiogenesis. IL-37 is a pro-angiogenic cytokine.<br/>Aim: To estimate the incidence of venous thrombosis in patients with ITP and find the<br/>correlation between IL 37 and the risk of thrombosis.<br/>Patients and Methods: we conducted a case-control study including 100 ITP patients<br/>and 30 healthy controls, all patients were assessed for venous thrombosis using color<br/>vascular Doppler and interleukin 37 levels were measured.<br/>Results: No statistically significant results could be found between interleukin 37levels<br/>in patients and controls (P value=0.058). We cannot correlate interleukin 37 with<br/>thrombosis as none of our patients had thrombosis.<br/>Conclusion: We finally concluded that there is no statistically significant correlation<br/>between interleukin 37 levels in patients and controls. There was no statistically<br/>significant correlation between Interleukin 37 and internal bleeding. We cannot<br/>correlate interleukin 37 with thrombosis as none of our patients had thrombosis. |
