Summary, etc. Asteraceae (Compositae) is one of the largest families of flowering plants. It is known by flower heads (capitulum) the aggregated flowers often occurring at the ends of branches or stems. The family contains more than 1620 genera and 25000-33000 species of herbs, shrubs, and trees distributed throughout the world. Ageratum houstonianum Mill. plant was collected from El-Orman botanical garden, Giza, Egypt, to carry on phytochemical investigations of leaves, stems and flowers.<br/>Fresh samples and dried powder of the roots, stems, leaves and flowers were studied by morphology, microscopy, macroscopy and DNA fingerprinting to aid their authentication and identification in any future study. <br/>The phytochemical study of the leaves, stems and flowers was established including preliminary phytochemical screening, investigation of essential oils contents, qualitative and quantitative investigation of the lipoidal contents by GC/MS and phenolic contents by HPLC, UHPLC-HR-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS profiling of the secondary metabolites, (their chemical profiles are nearly similar in composition but differ in quantities).<br/><br/> As result, leaves and flowers of A. houstonianum Mill. were considered the most active and subjected to further investigation. This included investigation of essential oils contents of leaves and flowers by GC/MS led to identification of 36 compounds, the major of them was precocene I &II. Flavonoids, sterols and fatty acids predominated in leaves and flowers and could be considered one of the most reliable chemical criteria for discrimination between leaves, stems and flowers.<br/>Eleven compounds have been isolated from the leaves extracts; six compounds were isolated from n-hexane extract which include one hydrocarbon, one fatty acid methyl ester, two sterols, one triterpene and one phenolic compound. While five phenolic compounds were isolated from methanolic extract of the leaves. They were identified by physical, chromatographic and spectral data. Some of these compounds were isolated for the first time from the leaves of A. houstonianum Mill. grown in Egypt. <br/><br/>Evaluation of antimicrobial, cytotoxic were done for essential oils of leaves and flowers, while insecticidal nd hepatoprotective activities were done on 70% ethanolic extract of the three organs of the plant to evaluate the most active organ in treating these diseases.<br/>

Summary, etc. تضم العائلة المركبة (آستراسى، وتسمى أيضًا كومبوزيتا ، أو آستر، أو دايزي, عائلة النباتات المزهرة، رتبة آسترالس) أكثر من 1620 جنسًا و(25000-33000 نوعًا) من الأعشاب والشجيرات والأشجار المنتشرة في جميع أنحاء العالم. من بينها آجيريتم وهو جنس يتكون من العديد من الأنواع. <br/>يعرف نبات آجيريتم أيضًا باسم العشبة البيضاء، ويضم حوالى من 40-60 نوعًا من الأعشاب. موطنها الأصلي الأمريكتين، ولكن بوجه خاص في المكسيك وأمريكا الجنوبية الاستوائية. وهو من النباتات الحولية (السنوية) أو المعمرة. هذا وتنمو حتى طول 30 بوصة (75 سنتيمتر). وتزرع أنواع آجيريتم لزهورها، وخاصة أجيريتم هوستونيانم مل. أكثر الأنواع شهرة هو آجيريتم كونيزويدس ل الذي يحتوي على مجموعة متنوعة من المستقلبات الثانوية. هذا ويركز هذا العمل على أجيريتم هوستونيانم مل الذى ينمو في مصر. يعتبر أجيريتم هوستونيانم مل من أحد نباتات الزينة الطبية الهامة التي تعود أصولها إلى الهند وأمريكا الوسطى والجنوبية وأوروبا والمكسيك وينمو هذا النبات بانتظام في أجزاء أخرى من العالم كأعشاب برية. وقد أثبت هذا النبات أن له العديد من الفعاليات البيولوجية مثل مضاد للفطريات ومضاد للميكروبات ومبيدات الحشرات. وعلاوة على ذلك، فقد وجد أن أجيريتم هوستونيانم مل مصدرا قويا لمضادات الأكسدة الطبيعية، كما أن له أيضا فعالية كمضاد للسرطان. ونظرًا لوجود عدد قليل جدًا من الدراسات حول هذا النبات الذي ينمو في مصر، كان من الضروري إجراء هذا العمل للبحث الكيميائي النباتي وتقييم بعض الأنشطة البيولوجية لأجزاء مختلفة لنبات أجيريتم هوستونيانم مل.
