| Summary, etc. | Background:Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women both in the developed and less developed world.<br/> Organized screening programs have led to a reduction in breast cancer mortality in several countries<br/> Screening by mammography is cost effective, beneficial and has high sensitivity in detecting microcalcifications.<br/> Breast calcifications are common mammographic findings in both screening and clinical populations. However, only certain suspicious microcalcifications(<0.5 mm) are of great concern. They may be associated with benign processes, atypia lesions or cancerous lesions. The associations of various microcalcifications with cancers according to their morphology and /or distribution have been published.<br/>Only contrast enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) provides alternative information regarding enhancement secondary to cancer angiogenesis, which assists cancer detection and highlights tumor boundaries .<br/>Aim of the work: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the utility of dual-energy contrast enhanced spectral mammography for evaluation of suspicious microcalcifications.<br/>Methods: This study was conducted on 75 patients, the ages ranged from 20-89 years with a mean of 45.36±11.7 (mean ± SD). The Patients that had CEDM examinations were those having mammographic suspicious breast calcifications under BIRADS 4, 5 and 6 categories 59 (78.7 %) BIRADs 4 b,c, 12 (16.0%) BIRADs 5 and 4 (5.3%) BIRADs 6 categories. Upon correlating with final diagnosis either by pathological analysis of core biopsy samples, true cut biopsy samples and post-surgical pathology specimen, there were 59/75 (78.7%) malignant and 15/75 (20.0%) were benign lesions and one missed pathological data.<br/>Results: The sensitivity of CEDM in detecting malignant lesions with contrast uptake was 94.9% in this study, specificity of 60%, accuracy of 86.7%, PPV 90.3% and NPV 75.0%.<br/>Conclusion: We concluded that: The Dual-energy contrast-enhanced digital mammography is a useful technique in the diagnosis of underlying disease in mammographically detected breast microcalcifications.<br/> |

| Summary, etc. | المقدمة : سرطان الثدي هو أكثر السرطانات شيوعا بين النساء سواء في العالم المتقدم أو الأقل نموا أدت برامج الفحص المنظمة الى انخفاض معدل وفيات سرطان الثدي في العديد من البلاد .<br/>يعد الفحص عن طريق الماموجرام للثدي فعالا من حيث التكلفة ومفيدا وله حساسية عالية في اكتشاف التكلسات الدقيقة .<br/>تكلسات الثدي تعتبر من أكثرالعلامات شيوعا التي يمكن أن تكون مصاحبة للأمراض الحميدة أو الخبيثة وذلك تبعا لشكلها وتوزيعها .<br/>الهدف من العمل : هو تقييم فائدة أشعة الماموجرام بالصبغة لتقييم تكلسات الثدي الدقيقة المشتبه بها لتقليل نسبه أخذ العينات<br/>الطرق المستخدمة : عن طريق اجراء البحث على مجموعة مريضات تعاني من وجود تكلسات دقيقة مشتبه بها في الثدي عن طريق أشعة الماموجرام ثم اخضاعهم للتصوير بأشعه الماموجرام بالصبغة وتقييم استجابة التكلسات للصبغة ومن ثم مقارنة نتائج الأشعه مع نتائج العينات .<br/>النتائج :حيث وجد أن جميع حالات سرطان الثدي الخبيثه من الدرجه العاليه والمتوسطه تم أخذ الصبغه بها بينما لم يتم أخذ الصبغه في 9 حالات من الاورام الحميده وحالات سرطان القنوي الموضعي منخفض الدرجه.<br/>المضمون: أشعه الماموجرام للثدي بالصبغة تقنية مفيدة وسريعة في تشخيص تكلسات الثدي المشتبه بها المكتشفه بواسطة أشعة الماموجرام .<br/> |
