Summary, etc. Background: Angiography is a highly effective invasive method for diagnosing coronary artery diseases but can lead to certain psychological problems such as anxiety. Aim: To compare the effect of foot reflexology therapy and pre cardiac catheterization instructions on anxiety level among patients undergoing coronary angiography. Research Hypotheses: H0: There is no significance statistical difference in anxiety scores between patients who will receive the foot reflexology therapy and patients who will receive pre –cardiac catheterization instructions. H1: Patients undergoing coronary angiography who will receive the foot reflexology therapy will reveal lesser mean anxiety scores than before the intervention. H2: Patients undergoing coronary angiography who will receive pre –cardiac catheterization instructions will have lesser mean anxiety scores than before receiving thus instructions. Design: A quasi-experimental comparative research design was utilized. Setting: This study was conducted at two selected critical care units affiliated to Cairo University Hospitals. Sample: A purposive sample of 80 adult patients undergoing coronary angiography was recruited along 8 months. Tools: Two tools were utilized to collect data as follows, tool (1): Demographic characteristics and medical data sheet, Tool (2) State-trait anxiety inventory (STAI). Results: There was significant statistical differences between reflexology and instructions study groups regarding to anxiety mean scores immediately and 30 minutes after intervention at f = 8.887 p = 0.004 and f = 10.96 p = 0.001 respectively “showing significant lower anxiety mean scores in reflexology study group”. In addition to there was significant statistical differences before, immediately and 30 minutes after interventions within reflexology group at f = 13.32 / p = 0.00 also within instructions study group at f = 18.33 / p = 0.00. Within the reflexology group, anxiety mean scores were descending ordered (56.32, 37.15, 36.77) showing the lowest score in 30 minutes after intervention then immediately after intervention. There were no significant statistical differences in both reflexology and instructions study groups before, immediately and 30 minutes after interventions at (3.788 /0.055). Conclusion: the study concluded that, more than half of the studied sample in both reflexology and instructions groups were suffering from anxiety. Foot reflexology and pre catheterization nursing instructions have positive effects on anxiety levels. reflexology intervention showed significant decrease in anxiety means scores than nursing instructions among patients undergoing coronary angiography Thus, reflexology and pre catheterization nursing instructions can be recognized as a simple, effective, nursing, non-invasive, non-pharmacological, and low-cost intervention method used to decrease of anxiety levels.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
