Summary, etc. | This thesis addresses the efficient electro-oxidation of small organic molecules, i.e., ethylene glycol (EG) and formic acid (FA) at porous Cu oxide/Cu and binary nickel oxide-modified Pt/GC anodes, respectively. The impact of urea (U) as a blending fuel on the electrocatalytic performance of the anodes towards the oxidation of the relevant molecule is investigated. That is blending EG with U leads to enhanced oxidation current with a favourable shift in the onset potential of the oxidation process. The extent of enhancement is affected by the molar ratio of the additive reaching a maximum in the presence of 0.002M U. On the other hand, urea derivatives show enhancing effect on the oxidation current of FA at Pt/GC as well as on nano-NiOx/Pt/GC anodes, in which the phenyl urea showed the best enhancing effect. DFT calculations for the single and the blended fuels provided the quantum chemical parameters, i.e., total energy and dipole moments, which assisted to correlate with the observed enhancing role of each addition to either EG or FA. |

Summary, etc. | تتناول هذه الرسالة الأكسدة الكهربية الفعالة للجزيئات العضوية الصغيرة ، مثل الإيثيلين جلايكول (EG) وحمض الفورميك (FA) على أكسيد النحاس المسامي المرسب علي النحاس والأنودات ثنائية التركيب من أكسيد النيكل وجسيمات البلاتين النانومترية على التوالي. وتم التحقق من تأثير اليوريا (U) كوقود مزيج على أداء التحفيز الكهربائي للأنودات تجاه أكسدة الجزيء ذي الصلة. إن مزج EG مع U يؤدي إلى تيار أكسدة محسن مع تحول إيجابي في احتمالية بداية عملية الأكسدة. يتأثر مدى التعزيز بالنسبة المولية للمادة المضافة. وتم تدعيم النتائج بالحسابات الكمية باستخدام نظرية كثافة الدالة (DFT). من ناحية أخرى ، تُظهر مشتقات اليوريا تأثيرًا معززًا على تيار أكسدة FA علي Pt / GC وكذلك على أنودات nano-NiOx / Pt / GC ، حيث أظهرت القياسات العملية ان اضافة فينيل اليوريا تؤدي الي أفضل تأثير معزز. قدمت حسابات DFT للوقود الأحادي والوقود المخلوط معلومات كيميائية كمية ، أي الطاقة الكلية وعزم ثنائي القطب ، والتي ساعدت على الارتباط بالدور المعزز الملحوظ لكل إضافة إما الي EG أو FA. |
