wastewater treatment plant is associated with various inherent occupational hazards which may result in severe consequences on sewage worker’s health. Sewage workers experience health problems and accidents that result from exposure to wide range of hazards related to plant design and its processes. Aim: Evaluate the effect of the educational program on occupational health and safety knowledge, beliefs and behaviors among sewage worker in Egypt. Design: A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest was utilized. Sample: A systematic random sampling was used and 230 workers were included. Setting: the study was conducted at Zenin wastewater treatment plant. Study tools: three tools were used: 1- Sewage Workers' Assessment Questionnaire [Demographic characteristic, occupational and medical data, sewage workers’ knowledge, and self-reported behavior].2-Sewage workers' occupational health and safety beliefs.3-Sewage Treatment Plant Work Environment’s Observational Checklist. Results: Revealed that 2.30%, 65.20%, 56.50%, of sewage workers had satisfactory level of knowledge in pre, post and follow up tests respectively. While 8.7%, 77.80% and 69.50% of sewage workers had satisfactory level of self-reported behavior in pre, post and follow up tests respectively. Moreover, there was a significant improvement in positive workers’ health beliefs model score in post and follow up test. Also, there was a highly statistical significant correlation between workers' knowledge, Health belief score and self-reported behavior (p=0.0001). Conclusions: Knowledge, self-reported behavior, Health belief model score among sewage workers had been improved after application of the educational program with statically significance differences between pre, post and follow up tests. Recommendation: Organizing educational program to sewage workers on occupational health and safety behavior that covers all wastewater treatment plant in different settings in Egypt. |

يعد عمال الصرف الصحي الذين يعملون في البلدان المنخفضة الدخل والبلدان المتوسطة الدخل هم أكثر عرضة للخطر بسبب نقص مشرفيين السلامة والصحة المهنية، وقوانين حماية بيئة العمل والعمالة غير المنظمة ، ونقص التدريب قبل العمل ، والافتقار إلى تدابير الصحة والسلامة المهنية (توليرا ، 2023). كما اشارات الابحاث الى ان نسب الاصابات الخاصة بعمال الصرف الصحى ما يقدر بنحو 2.3 مليون عامل صرف صحي سنويًا يصاب بالموت من الآثار السلبية لعملهم في جميع أنحاء العالم ، ويعاني ما يقدر بنحو 270 مليونًا من الإصابات والحوادث والأمراض المهنية. يمكن أن تظهر المخاطر في أي وقت أثناء عملية معالجة مياه الصرف الصحي (دنون ونوبان 2021).<br/>ولهذا فان التثقيف الصحي هو أداة مهمة لتحفيز العمال على حماية أنفسهم من مخاطر الصحة المهنية. ومع ذلك ، يجب أن تكون برامج التثقيف الصحي الفعالة مصممة بشكل منهجي وقائمة على الأدلة. لتصميم تدخل ناجح محتمل للتثقيف الصحي من أجل الصحة والسلامة المهنية ، سيكون من المفيد جمع المعلومات حول مستوى المعرفة والمعتقدات وسلوك العمال الخاص بالسلامة والصحنية المهنية لشرح وفهم العوامل التي تؤثر على اتباع وتطبيق العمال لإرشادات السلامة والصحة المهنية والتي قد تساهم بالتالي في تبني سلوكيات السلامة فى اماكن العمل (أحمد ، عيسى ، محمد ، 2018). |
