| Summary, etc. | Introduction Lymphedema in post-mastectomy patients has the ability to <br/>become a chronic, progressive disease that is resistant to treatment. As a <br/>consequence, it can impair function and reduce quality of life .Mastectomy is <br/>the surgical removal of the cancerous portion of the breast tissue (malignant <br/>tumor) .Since 60% of all lymph nodes are found right beneath the <br/>diaphragm, it serves as a lymphatic pump. By exerting a negative pressure <br/>and drawing the lymph through the lymphatic system, diaphragmatic <br/>breathing (DB) promotes the cleaning of the lymph nodes. Methods sixty <br/>eight patients with post mastectomy lymphedema were chosen at random <br/>and divided into two groups of equal size, (Group A) received resisted <br/>diaphragmatic breathing (RDB)exercise and complete decongestive therapy <br/>(CDT) (pneumatic compression, compression bandage ,manual lymphatic <br/>drainage ,active range of motion AROM exercise and skincare), 3session per <br/>week for 4 weeks, (Group B) received complete decongestive therepy (CDT) <br/>3session per week for 4 weeks. Measurement patient‘s limb circumferential <br/>measurements were taken at five point (axillary, mid arm, elbow, mid <br/>forearm and wrist) for both group pretreatment and post treatment. Results: <br/>These findings revealed that there was decrease in lymphedema <br/>measurement in both groups after therapy compared to before treatment <br/>(p<0.001). However, statistical analysis showed higher significant <br/>improvement in favor to the deep resisted breathing group (p < 0.001). <br/>Conclusion: Deep resisted breathing exercise proved to be effective in <br/>decreasing lymphedema measurement in post mastectomy patient. |

| Summary, etc. | إشترك في هذه الدراسة ثماني وستون مريضاممن يعانون من التورم الليمفاوي في زراع واحدة أعمارهم تتراوح ما بين الثلاثين والستين عاما وتم اختيارهم من العيادات الخارجية وتم تقسيمهم عشوائيا إلى مجموعتين متساويتين : المجموعة الأولى تكونت من اربعه وثلاثون مريضا ممن تلقوا العلاج بالتنفس العميق مع مقاومة بجانب العلاج الطبيعى التقليدي والمجموعة الثانية تكونت من اربعة وثلاثون مريضا ممن تلقوا العلاج الطبيعي التقليدي ولقد أظهرت النتائج فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين المجموعتين قبل وبعد العلاج ولكن العلاج بالتنفس العميق مع المقاومة كان له تاثير افضل علي حجم التورم الليمفاوى كما اوضح شريط القياس . |
