Summary, etc. The objective of this work is to examine a novel configuration that integrates a conventional three-chamber (MDC) with a two-chamber (FO) cell, referred to as MDC-FO cell. The MDC-FO cell consists of four chambers that simultaneously treat wastewater with organic content and desalinate saline water each in two stages. <br/>Five MDC-FO cells are constructed and operated to examine the effect of various parameters on the performance of the cells. The results showed that the performance of the cell was affected by various parameters, such as the initial COD concentration of wastewater, the salt concentration of saline water, the cycle time, and the hydraulic retention times.<br/>Overall, the MDC-FO cell is a promising technology for the simultaneous treatment of wastewater and desalination of saline water. Further research is needed to optimize the cell performance and to investigate the long-term stability of the cell.
