| Summary, etc. | Background; Triple arthrodesis has stood the test of time as a procedure that can restore a painful and/or deformed rigid flat foot into a stable and pain-free foot. Since the first triple-arthrodesis procedures have been described, little at the operative technique has changed. Recent studies suggest that some significant alterations in the technique may lead to equally good results.<br/>Aim and objectives; to compare functional and radiological outcomes of triple fusion and medial double fusion as a method of treatment of neglected cases of rigid flat foot.<br/>Subjects and methods: The current study is a Randomized controlled trial study. It was conducted in the Kasr Al Ainy university hospital over 59 feet of 41 patients with rigid flat foot. Patients younger than 14 years old were excluded. The patients are classified into two groups: Group A: included 31 feet of 21 patients receiving triple hind foot fusion, Group B: included 28 feet of 20 patients receiving medial double fusion.<br/>Result; There was high statistically significant difference between AOFAS hind foot score, calcaneal pitch angle, AP Talo-MT1 angle, lat Talo-MT1 angle, TN coverage angle pre and post operation in group 1 and group 2. There was no statistically significant difference between AOFAS hind foot score, calcaneal pitch angle, lat Talo-MT1 angle, TN coverage angle pre and post operation between the 2 groups. There was statistically significant difference operative time and AP Talo-MT1 angle between the 2 groups.<br/>Conclusion; Arthrodesis of the subtalar and talonavicular joints through a medial approach is an equally reliable procedure for the treatment of neglected rigid flatfoot without calcaneocuboid joint degeneration as triple arthrodesis with shorter operative time. |
