| Summary, etc. | BACKGROUND: Trigger points in the upper trapezius muscle (UT) can cause pain in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. They can also lead to headaches and other problems, such as decreased productivity and quality of life. OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to investigate the effect of Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) compared to Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) on UT trigger points. DESIGN: Randomized, single blind, comparative clinical study. <br/>METHODS: Forty patients (28 women and 12 men), aged between 20 to 40 years, with active trigger points in the UT muscle were randomly assigned into two equal groups (Group A and Group B). Patients in group A received IASTM using M2T blade while in group B received ESWT. All patients received eight sessions (twice a week for four weeks). Both groups received muscle energy technique for UT muscle. Patients were evaluated pre, at fifth session and post treatment for pain intensity using the visual analogue scale, Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT) using a pressure algometer, cervical range of motion (CROM) using universal goniometer and Arabic version of neck disability index (ANDI) to assess neck disability. RESULTS: By using repeated measure MANOVA test the results relieved that there was a highly significant time effect (p≤001**) and there was no significant difference for treatment and for interaction effect (treatment*time) (p≥0.05) of the most of the variables. Bonferroni test was used to ccompare the pre- and post-treatment mean values for all variables in group A and B, there were highly significant differences within each group but no difference between both groups for pain intensity, PPT, CROM and ANDI (P=0.001**). Conclusion: both methods of treatments are effective improvement in pain intensity, PPT, CROM and ANDI but no significant difference between both groups of treatments. |

| Summary, etc. | متلازمة الألم الليفي العضلي هي اضطراب شائع يصيب قطاع كبير من الأشخاص وتظهر عليهم بعض الأعراض كتراكم نقاط الزناد في العضلات<br/> تم تصميم هذه الاطروحة على أنها تجربة سريرية تقارن تأثير تحريك الأنسجة الرخوة بمساعدة الأداة بجانب مع تقنية الاسترخاء ومقارنتها بجهاز الموجات التصادمية بجانب تقنية الاسترخاء على نقطة الزناد العضلي 1و2 من العضلة شبه المنحرفة العلوية, أجريت هذه الدراسة لتقييم شدة الألم ، وقوة تحمل الألم الناتج عن الضغط ، والمدي الحركي للفقرات العنقية ومؤشر الإعاقة للرقبة وتم قياسهم قبل العلاج ، و في الجلسة الخامسة من العلاج وبعد يومين من انتهاء العلاج. <br/>تشمل هذه الدراسه مجموعتين من المرضي كل مجموعة مكونة من 20 مريضا و جميع المرضى تلقوا 8 جلسات خلال 4 أسابيع.<br/>وأظهرت نتائج هذه الدراسة أن هناك فرقا ملحوظا في القياسات للمرضي قبل تلقي العلاج والجلسة الخامسة للعلاج في كل مجموعة علي حدة وكذلك فرقا ملحوظا في القياسات للمرضي قبل تلقي العلاج وبعد الانتهاء من جلسات العلاج في كل مجموعة علي حدة ولكن لم يكن هناك فرق بين المجموعتين في جميع المتغيرات. |
