| Summary, etc. | <br/>Residential segregation is a crucial explanatory mechanism for exploring and understanding social and spatial inequalities in the Egyptian landscape through its impact on individual and neighborhood-level socio-economic status and quality of life. In this thesis, a data science approach- a random forest classification approach- is used to (1) examine the factors that affect residential segregation and quality of life (QOL) in Egypt and (2) show how these factors change depending on the spatial context.<br/>The random forest classifier model was developed based on secondary data from the 2018 Egyptian Labor Market Panel Survey (ELMPS). The key results indicate clear residential segregation in a rural-urban spatial context and among Greater Cairo’s districts. The results confirmed that factors fostering residential segregation are indissolubly linked to different aspects of quality of life, such as material living conditions, physical well-being, material well-being, and environmental quality. Then, to quantify and evaluate the factors that affect QOL in Egypt and how they differ across geographical regions, a multi-group structural equation model (MGSEM) was developed. The findings confirmed the preceding conclusions: residential segregation and quality of life are intrinsically linked. They showed significant socioeconomics and spatial disparities in the QOL.<br/>The research highlights the importance of uncovering the determinants and consequences of residential segregation on QOL. Reducing inequalities and enhancing the QOL of all citizens are human rights. They are crucial to achieving sustainable development and the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030.<br/> |

| Summary, etc. | يُعد الفصل السكني آلية تفسيرية مهمة لاستكشاف وفهم عدم المساواة الاجتماعية والمكانية في المجتمع المصري من خلال تأثيره على الوضع الاجتماعي والاقتصادي وجودة الحياة على مستوى الفرد والمناطق السكنية. ولذلك تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استكشاف العوامل التي تؤثر على الفصل السكني وجودة الحياة في مصر ومدى تغيرها مع اختلاف السياق المكاني قيد الدراسة. وذلك من خلال بناء نموذج يعتمد على خوارزميات الغابات العشوائية- أحد نماذج علم البيانات- على بيانات مسح سوق العمل المصري لعام 2018. وأظهرت نتائج الدراسة وجود فصل سكني بين المناطق الجغرافية المختلفة كما يتضح من خلال الفصل السكني بين الريف والحضر وبين الأحياء المختلفة في القاهرة الكبرى. كما أكدت الدراسة على أن العوامل التي تعزز الفصل السكني ترتبط ارتباطًا وثيقًا بالجوانب المختلفة لجودة الحياة، بما في ذلك المستوى الاجتماعي والاقتصادي، والصحة ومستوى السكن، وجودة البيئة المحيطة. ومن ثَم، لتحديد وتقييم العوامل التي تؤثر على جودة الحياة في مصر وكيفية اختلافها عبر المناطق الجغرافية المختلفة، تم بناء نماذج المعادلة الهيكلية متعددة المجموعات. وأكدت النتائج على أن هناك ارتباط بين الفصل السكني وجودة الحياة، وينعكس ذلك في العديد من الجوانب الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والبيئية. وتخلص هذه الدراسة إلى ضرورة تسليط الضوء على أهمية الكشف عن محددات وعواقب الفصل السكني على جودة الحياة. فتعزيز السياسات العامة التي تساهم في المساواة بين المواطنين وبالتالي تعزيز جودة الحياة هو حق أساسي من حقوق الإنسان، وضرورة لتحقيق التنمية المستدامة وأهداف التنمية المستدامة للأمم المتحدة بحلول عام 2030. |
