Summary, etc. This thesis aims to enhance the treatment of oil-containing wastewater by membrane technologies. Membrane distillation process was tested using polyvinylidene fluoride and polytetrafluoroethylene membranes. To enhance the treatment efficiency of the process, a hybrid system was proposed utilizing ultrafiltration pretreatment to remove emulsified oil and suspended matter followed by air-gap membrane distillation to remove the dissolved components of the oil and the dissolved solids. The treatment by standalone membrane distillation was very unstable and significant fluctuations in both the flux and salt rejection were observed. The hybrid system incorporating ultrafiltration and membrane distillation by PTFE membrane was designed and implemented to enhance the process efficiency and stability. Oil removal of 96.5% and dissolved salts removal of 99% were achieved. When an extreme concentration of salts (i.e. 120,000 ppm) was used, the removal efficiency deteriorated to 50%. Extensive characterization was carried out to study the fouling behavior of the membrane-oil-brine system.

Summary, etc. هذا العمل يهدف إلي تحسين معالجة المياه الملوثة بالزيت باستخدام تكنولوجيات الأغشية. تم اختبارعملية التقطير بالأغشية الناشئة باستخدام أغشية مصنعه من بوليمر الفينالدين فلوريد أو من بوليمر رباعي فلورو الإيثيلين. لرفع كفاءة عملية المعالجة، تم اقتراح نظام هجين يستخدم تقنية الفلتره الفائقة كعملية معالجة أوليه لإزاله الزيت المستحلب و المواد المعلقه يتبعها عملية التقطير بالأغشية بالفراغ الهوائي لإزاله الزيت و المواد الصلبه الذائبين. النظام الهجين الذي يحتوي علي عملية الفلتره الفائقة و التقطير بالأغشية باستخدام غشاء مصنع من مادة رباعي فلورو الإيثيلين حقق إزاله للزيت بنسبة 96.5% و إزاله للأملاح الذائبة بنسبة 99%. تم تنفيذ توصيف شامل علي الأغشية قيد الاختبار لدراسة سلوك تراكم الملوثات من الزيت و الأملاح علي أسطح الأغشية.
