| Summary, etc. | This research project examines the published and unpublished of the Egyptian Anglophone writer Waguih Ghali (192? – 1969), and paratexts surrounding his only published novel, Beer in the Snooker Club. Through the framework of Life Writing Studies, this research examines Ghali's work as self-referential writing, the thesis aims to examine the different representations of the 'self' in the different genres of life-narratives which Ghali produced during his life. These representations are to be examined in conjunction with the paratexts which surround Ghali's writings through paratext theory. Using theories from life writings genres, the research focuses on the generic frameworks in which Ghali wrote his texts in relation to concepts such as the intimacy, identity, relationality and examines a wide array of paratexts that affect the representation of the self. |

| Summary, etc. | يدور هذا البحث حول كتابات ونصوص الكاتب المصري الأنجلوفوني وجيه غالي وكتابات ونصوص أخرى – عتبات النص – التي تدور حول روايته الوحيدة بيرة في نادي البلياردو التي نشرت بالإنجليزية عام 1964 (ترجمت إلى العربية عام 2007 ونشرت ترجمة جديدة في 2013). تبحث هذه الدراسة في أساليب تمثيل الذات في كتابات غالي بالتجاور مع نصوص مستلهمة من كتابته وحياته. تدخل هذه الدراسة عالم وجيه غالي من هذه الزاوية وهي "الكتابة الذاتية" وهنا تتطلب تفسيرات أدق لماهية النصوص المبنية على الحياة الشخصية وأنواع الكتابة الذاتية الأخرى. يركز البحث على الأشكال المختلفة لتمثيل الذات في الأنواع الأدبية المتنوعة التي استخدمها وجيه غالي في كتاباته، وذلك من خلال دراستها كنصوص كتابة ذاتية أو نصوص تدور حول الذات. يَدرس هذا البحث رواية غالي بالإضافة إلى نصوص أخرى كتبها بالإنجليزية منها ما نشر خلال حياته، قصص قصيرة وعدة مقالات، ومنها ما نُشر بعد وفاته بقرابة خمسين عامًا: رسائله إلى الكاتبة الإنجليزية ديانا أتهيل؛ ويومياته التي كتبها بين عام 1964و 1968؛ ومسودة صغيرة لمشروع روايته الثانية. وبذلك، فإن هذا البحث يتمحور حول دراسة كل صور الذات المختلفة الممثلة في أعمال غالي بالتوازي مع "عتبات النص" والأعمال التي تم إنتاجها حول روايته والتي تتطرق لحياته. يستخدم البحث نظريات من دراسات أدب السيرة الذاتية لدراسة رواية غالي "بيرة في نادي البلياردو" ومخطوطات يدوية ليومياته ورسائله. <br/>ينقسم هذا البحث إلى جزئين، الجزء الأول "النوع الأدبي" ويتكون من الفصل الأول "عتبات الحميمية: مخطوطات رسائل ويوميات غالي" والفصل الثاني "الذات العامة: كتابات غالي الأدبية المنشورة والغير منشورة". يتطرق الفصل الأول كما يتضح من العنوان إلى دراسة مخطوطات يديوية لرسائل ويوميات وجيه غالي المتاحة على أرشيف إلكتروني تابع لجامعة كورنيل. يركز هذا الفصل على تحليل هذه المخطوطات اليدوية من خلال تسليط الضوء على سمات المخطوطة الذاتية كونها نص خاص يتسم بالحميمية ويتطرق الفصل إلى استخدام غالي لمعايير النوع الأدبي في يومياته ورسائله. يتقصى الفصل كيف تتمثل ذوات غالي المختلفة في هذه المخطوطات وكيف تتأثر بالمعايير الحاكمة للنوع الأدبي وكيف تتخطاها. أما الفصل الثاني من الرسالة ومن الجزء الأول منها فهو دراسة عن "الذات العامة" من خلال تحليل نصوص غالي الأدبية المنشورة والغير منشورة. |
