| Summary, etc. | This systematic review aimed to find the existing evidence about <br/>the effect of polarized light therapy on wound healing in patients with <br/>different types of wounds. Electronic databases (Cochrane library, <br/>PubMed, PEDro and Google Scholar ) were searched for relevant RCTs <br/>published in English from 2019 to 2023. These keywords were used in <br/>search: “polarized light therapy”, Bioptron, wound, ulcer, burn, and <br/>healing. The search restricted to RCTs on humans with wounds. <br/>The eight studies included involved 320 patients with wounds. Two <br/>independent reviewers extracted data from the included studies and <br/>disagreement were revealed with the third author. Studies' <br/>methodological quality was assessed by PEDro scale; it ranged from fair <br/>to good quality. The level of evidence of PLT for each type of wound was <br/>specified according to modified Sackett's scale. Meta analysis was <br/>applicable in four included studies; the other four studies were <br/>heterogeneous and underwent descriptive analysis. <br/>The current systematic review found limited to strong evidence on <br/>the effectiveness of polarized light therapy on healing of ulcers, burn and <br/>wounds; as the effect of PLT on healing of ulcers were of strong evidence <br/>while on burn were of limited evidence and on wounds were of moderate <br/>evidence. <br/>62<br/>The current evidence for the effectiveness of polarized light <br/>therapy in improving healing was strong. The meta-analysis showed a <br/>significant difference between the polarized light and control groups and <br/>revealed significant decrease in ulcer surface area in PLT group; revealed <br/>significant effect of PLT on ulcers healing. |
