Summary, etc. | Background .Behcet disease (BD) is an autoinflammatory disease characterized by a triad of uveitis, oral and genital aphthae, and described to have altered Toll-like receptors (TLR) on macrophages. It is diagnosed clinically due to the unavailability of any pathognomonic test. If left untreated, it can lead to disability, so early diagnosis and proper management are a must to restrain the inflammation. LncRNA MEG3 and lncRNA MAFG-AS1 are regulators of miRNA 147, induced upon TLR stimulation. Our study suggested them to be possible new biomarkers for BD. However, this needs to be investigated in future in vivo and in vitro studies.<br/>Subjects and methodology<br/>The participants in this study were 100 Egyptian adults who were classified into two groups: fifty BD patients, and fifty age and sex-matched controls. Real- time PCR was used to measure the expression levels of serum LncRNA MEG3, lncRNA MAFG-AS1, and miRNA 147.<br/>Results<br/>LncRNA MEG3 and lncRNA MAFG-AS1 were significantly downregulated in the serum of our BD patients. While serum miRNA 147 was significantly upregulated in BD patients.<br/>Conclusions<br/>It can be concluded that lncRNA MEG3, lncRNA MAFG-AS1, and miRNA147 are promising diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for BD patients. |
