| Summary, etc. | Background: Incurable advanced cancer is a life-threatening diagnosis with high levels of mental distress that may lead to anxiety, depression or both. In response to such stress, patients use spirituality and a variety of coping strategies that are associated with multiple outcomes, including quality of life, symptoms of depression and anxiety, illness understanding, and end-of-life care. Objectives: This study aimed to measure spirituality level and coping style and their relation with depressive and anxiety symptoms among incurable advanced cancer patients. Methods: This study is an observational descriptive cross sectional study that was conducted on 160 subjects who were diagnosed by having incurable cancer and recruited from the palliative care unit, Kasr Al Ainy Center of Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine (NEMROCK), Kasr Aliny Faculty of Medicine, Cairo university over a period of 6 months. The patients were evaluated by using DSES ( Daily Spirituality Experience Scale) to assess of spirituality level, BCI (Brief Coping Inventory) to assess coping style and HADS (Hospital Anxiety - Depression scale) to assess both anxiety and depressive symptoms. Results: There was high prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms among advanced cancer patients , 17.5% , 24.4% and 21.9% of the participants had mild , moderate and severe anxiety symptoms respectively and 10% , 25% and 43.8% of the participants had mild , moderate and severe depressive symptoms respectively . In addition , spirituality level and coping style correlated negatively with depressive and anxiety symptoms , as well pain severity while the correlated positively with patient performance status , and vice versa . Conclusion: improving spirituality level and coping style and treating anxiety and depression in patients with incurable advanced cancer lead to improvement in their quality of life. |

| Summary, etc. | الخلفية: السرطان المتقدم غير القابل للشفاء هو تشخيص يهدد الحياة مع مستويات عالية من الاضطراب العقلي الذي قد يؤدي إلى القلق أو الاكتئاب أو كليهما. استجابةً لمثل هذا الضغط، يستخدم المرضى الروحانية ومجموعة متنوعة من استراتيجيات التكيف المرتبطة بنتائج متعددة، بما في ذلك نوعية الحياة، وأعراض الاكتئاب والقلق، وفهم المرض، والرعاية في نهاية الحياة. الأهداف: هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى قياس مستوى الروحانية وأسلوب المواجهة وعلاقتهما بأعراض الاكتئاب والقلق لدى مرضى السرطان في مراحله المتقدمة غير القابلة للشفاء. طرق البحث: هذه الدراسة عبارة عن دراسة مقطعية وصفية وصفية تم إجراؤها على 160 شخصًا تم تشخيص إصابتهم بسرطان غير قابل للشفاء وتم تجنيدهم من وحدة الرعاية التلطيفية بمركز قصر العيني لطب الأورام السريري والطب النووي (NEMROCK) بكلية الطب بالقصر العيني. الطب جامعة القاهرة لمدة 6 أشهر. تم تقييم المرضى باستخدام DSES (مقياس الخبرة الروحانية اليومية) لتقييم مستوى الروحانية، وBCI (جرد المواجهة الموجز) لتقييم أسلوب المواجهة وHADS (مقياس القلق في المستشفى - الاكتئاب) لتقييم كل من أعراض القلق والاكتئاب. النتائج: كان هناك ارتفاع في انتشار أعراض الاكتئاب والقلق بين مرضى السرطان المتقدمين، 17.5%، 24.4% و21.9% من المشاركين لديهم أعراض قلق خفيفة، متوسطة وشديدة على التوالي و10%، 25% و43.8% من المشاركين لديهم أعراض قلق خفيفة. وأعراض الاكتئاب المتوسطة والشديدة على التوالي. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، فإن مستوى الروحانية وأسلوب المواجهة يرتبطان سلباً بأعراض الاكتئاب والقلق، وكذلك شدة الألم بينما يرتبطان إيجابياً بحالة أداء المريض، والعكس صحيح. الاستنتاج: تحسين المستوى الروحاني وأسلوب التعامل وعلاج القلق والاكتئاب لدى مرضى السرطان في مراحله المتقدمة غير القابلة للشفاء يؤدي إلى تحسين . |
